Hi,

I am thinking about starting a new tank and adding some crypt wendtii. I notice that there are several different color morphs (red, green, bronze, etc). How different are they? In other words, if I get 2 or 3 different color morphs, will I see a significant difference between them? Or only minor differences? (Lighting is 2x54 T5 bulbs in a 55 gallon tank).

1. How many crypts should I put together to make a grouping?

2. Should I pick one type of each color in a group? Or should I get several groups of different colors? If I get different groups, will the groups look that different.

I guess I am trying to say that I want some variety in my first tank and I am wondering if I should get multiple morphs of wendtii or if I should just mix wendtii with walkeri or some other crypt.

Thanks.

You should also try to keep moving them at a minimum. When you move crypts they usually experience a little bit of a melting period that lasts about 7-10 days IME.

Crypts are great plants. Like David said, they will melt a little of you move them or change the conditions significantly. The biggest difference I've noticed in the C. wendtii I've kept is the difference between green/brown morphs and the Mi Oya cultivar. It has much larger, reddish-brown leaves. You don't have to plant them too close together, since they're rosette plants and they will eventually send out runners.
