I've been wanting to upgrade my betta's tank. It's currenly a standard 2.5 gallon with a sponge filter and mini heater. It's ok, but it feels so tiny to me, it's hard to make it look nice. Today mom and I went to Michaels and they had 12" diameter "bubble" vases for $20. It's a sphere that calculates out to about 3.5 gallons. The other option is that I could get glass cut and build a custom cube aquarium for him. I'd probably make it a 10" cube, which works out to about 4 gallons.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning to cube. I like making aquariums, I can build it for about the same price as the sphere, and it's a more efficient use of space, seeing as how it will be on my desk.

if i were to upgrade a betta's tank, i'd go a good bit bigger than just a gallon or so more than what it is now. my bettas (quite a number over the years) seem to have been happiest when each got a 10 gallon tank to themselves, with an apple snail roommate. although they do 'ok' in small spaces, bettas do really appreciate swim room. i've got one now in a 20 gal long and he's pretty durn happy :)

Hi
You can usually buy 10 gallon tanks for under 10 bucks. you can add plants filters heaters, lights whatever . all standrd equipment. You can aklso divide in half and keep two. you can also add other fish such as cory cats. to clean up the leftovers. Bet you can't maje one for under 10 bucks of any size?? lol gary

Thanks, I'm not a newbie. I've been keeping bettas since I was 5 years old and have kept them for years in everything from a 2 gallon vase to a 10 gallon aquarium. I even have a 10 gallon tank right now that's cycled and everything, but I use it as a QT, and the spot that it's sitting is just temporary because I literally have no other place to put it. This betta is on my desk, and a 10 gallon is just way too big for my desk.

Honestly, I even have an empty standard 5.5 gallon tank, but I have plans for it and also feel it's too big for my desk.

Mr Aqua has a nice tank that has a 10x10 base and is 12 inches high. perhaps you could try that?

I have no idea where to get that tank, and even if I did, a rimless and unusually bowed front would make it fairly expensive. No way in hell I'd have it shipped, and why would I go out of my way to buy a tank when I can build my own any dimensions I want for $20 and some time?

I understand y'all are trying to help, but I did not ask for your help or input as to what size tank I should build. I asked for input as to whether I should get the sphere, or build a cube. The size and shape of the cube are not in question here, and I'm getting kind of irritated with people trying to tell me what I should keep my betta in when there are probably hundreds of people on this very forum who keep their bettas in tanks that are less than 5 gallons.
