cucumber or zuccini?

I just got my first plecos the other day and as they eat the algae waffers just fine I would like to offer them some fresh veggies. I tried cucumber and they want nothing to do with it so I'm thinking of trying zuccini. I don't know the difference so I'm confused. Thanks for any help.

Usually, plecos go for any kind of vegetation with some flavor in it. But of course it requires more than just pellets and tank algae to eat. You can also, and should, feed them: zucchini, cucumber, peas, melon and also any semi-soft fruit or vegetable will do as well. They also can eat shrimp, shrimp pellets and flake fish food. They can become aggressive if their hiding spot is taken by other hiding fish, such as Brown Knifefish, Rope Fish, and Tire Track eels.

My fish prefer zucchini over cukes but that's their people preference too. Well, maybe Mr fishorama likes cukes more, lol, but he ain't buying...

i give my bristlenose pleco zucchini. i've tried green beans and carrots as well but she doesn't want anything but her zuch, lol.

I feed my BN's canned green beans regularly. Much easier to store/handle than fresh veggies, and they don't need skewers to make them sink. Yam or sweet potato slices are also good, but they should be softened up by steaming slightly (microwave works for me) or it will take several days for them to get eaten.

I prefer zucchini over cucumber for a number of reasons.The best is that zuuc will hold together and not turn slimy for up to three days and by that time the plecs have totally consumed it,whereas cucumber will turn slimy and pollute the tank in usually one day.I just cut the zucc in half,and then cut each half longways leaving four pieces.I make a "feeding tray" out of those plastic pieces that come with glass tops that you cut to fit your filters in place.I rubber band a couple of flat stones on one side,then rubber band the zucc on the other.Then put in bottom of tank and they usually start scrubbing away.Anyway,just an idea.Good luck...

My bushy nose doesn't touch cukes, but loves zucchini. Also likes sweet potato (as mentioned). I cut and then freeze my veggies so that they will be soft when thawed.
