My LFS gets in BEAUTIFUL live rock. I don't recall the kind at the moment but it's not cured. What exactly happens during the curing process and how could I cure it myself prior to putting some live rock in an established tank. I'm sure there's a link, but I can't find it.

Curing involves waiting for all the stuff that died in transit or can't survive life in the tank to decompose and go away.
One way that works pretty well is to put it into a large garbage can with a heater, lots of circulation, and a skimmer, and wait for ammonia and nitrite to go to 0.
