I have a small cuviceps, about 2 inches. It eats normally and is not shy but seems to struggle while swimming and always rests on the bottom, it stays upright on the bottom never falling over. The only thing I could think of is a swim bladder condition. Does anyone have an idea or suggestion?

Post your tank size, decor, other inhabinants, and all water parameters from a good liquid test kit. Also, how long has this tank been established?

the tank is a55 gal. that has been up for approx. 7 months. It has plenty of drift and bog wood, well planted and several hiding spots. It shares the tank with two kribs, three jewels, two firemouths, three cory cats, a few guppies and a couple of various tetras, all under two inches. The tanks ph is around 7.8 with low ammonia and nitrates.

You really ought to have zero ammonia for a tank that's been up and running that long. I'd start by doing a 50% water change and see if that helps. With some of your cichlids, they could have caused an internal injury on the curviceps - it's an awfully small and peaceful cichlid for your tank.

I agree...a 7 month old tank should pretty much be long overdue for readings of zero on ammonia and nitrites.
