Cycled in 11 days??????

my saltwater tank cycled in 6 days believe it or not. I swear it did!

i added a clean up crew and didn't add a fish until about 3 weeks later I think. It's def the way to go. It gives you time to gain experience with water changes and whatnot. Also, like said above - gives the tank time to really get established.

Am not disagreeing that people should be cautious when starting up an aquarium, but it goes back to what i said earlier...our aquariums are not all the same. I introduced my fish after 5 days of the cycle completing, and i have never seen any signs of stress, and signs of disease including Ich ( and yes, i have a yellow tang ich magnet )...This is just the point i am merely saying.

Ich is a bad thing to happen to anybody's aquarium, same as countless other diseases and infection which can be caught from something lingering in the live rock you have purchased. But do we also bear them into account when it comes to introducing fish? Nope..

Ahh well, whatever. I myself am quarantining EVERYTHING that goes into my tank from now on. Other than impatience, there's really no reason not to.

But, I've said my piece and you've said yours, so that's probably enough on the subject.

Back to the original question: Yes, it's definitely possible, if you added good cured live rock and good live sand, that your tank is finished cycling in 11 days.

:bday:

This is correct, i was in a similar situtation when i started up my fisrt marine tank, everything except water came from an established reef, and my tank was done i about 8 or 9 days..which i tested by adding pure ammonia to the tank and watching the results as the ammonia gets converted to nitrite and so forth...

well dont worry, I'm not in any hurry to start adding fish. Right now I want to add some crabs and snails to clean up the algae on the rock, and fish in a couple weeks.

Thats a good idea to test it - adding the pure ammonia and watching the levels for a couple days. I'll try that tonight.
