Ok, going on 2 and half weeks of a new 30 g tank. First week got my amonia readings, nothing more than .25, did a water change to bring down to 0. After that I got one day when my nitrites got up to .25, did a water change to bring down to 0. Now every day I check I am at 0 amoina, 0 nitites and .5 nitrates. I cant believe my tank is cycled yet? I did some bottled starter Bac (cant remember the name) to start the cycle.

if you had a boost (like a bacteria starter or a filter or something from a cycled tank) it is very possible that your tank is cycled already. My 55 gallon took three weeks with a filter from a cycled tank, a bacteria starter from Pro Aquatics, and 5 zebra danios.

Keep an eye on it though for another week and a half just to be sure, before you add any more fish.

Make sure you're dosing with ammonia (~3ppm) and test 24 hours later to see if they're at 0/0/and whatever NitrAtes.

He has fish in his tank already so definitely don't want to add ammonia.

As far as starter bacteria:

Was it called "BioSpira"? Or maybe it was "Cycle"? BioSpira works that fast or faster (I've used it). Cycle however is generally regarded as useless. I have no personal experience with it, but others say it doesn't work.

Do you have live plants? This can also cause a short, almost unnoticable cycle if it's heavily planted.
