cycling new tank with plants?

hi
did a fishless cycle when I set up my 120g. added lots, really lots of plants. could not measure any ammonia, never... but had 510w lighting, CO2...
but even today I would anyway not risk to have fish in it before 6 weeks have passed. not worth it, do you want to risk the fish suffer?

hello! my question is will it be safe to add fish into a planted new uncycle aquarium? will the plant breakdown the ammonium fast enough to make the water safe for the fish? sorry if the question sound sillyappreciate your advice. thanks!

What you're describing is called a "silent cycle." I did that myself for the tank listed in my .sig, and it worked like a charm. The key is fast-growing stem plants that will break down the ammonia. Wisteria grows like a weed, with the benefit of being actually pretty. Also, add your fish a few at a time, to give the system the time to adjust. As you can see, I have just the one betta (still looking for tankmates for him). You'll slowly build up the bacteria you need while avoiding the stress of a fish-cycle. :thm:
A silent cycle is deff better than a fishy cycle, Good luck on that.
