Hello I am a new member with a few questions. I Just started cycling my tank with live rock about 1 week ago. Now int the last few days brown algae or diatoms? have covered almost everything. I've read this is normal but it looks bad to me. Is this normal or is it something I need to worry about. It looks worse in person I think.
lol that looks very familar. The same exact thing happened to me. The amount of diatoms should balance over time. Thats too much to survive all at once for a long period of time. I just cleaned off the ones on the side of my tank, mixed the sand around and then waited. It should clear up nicely within a week or two. And then, any bits that were left around after the cycle were quickly eaten up by my turbo snails.
And your sand was once white correct? The sand color will also turn back to normal. Maybe not completely white, but you definitely won't see that obvious brownish color.
