cycling tanks and why so importent

ok i have a 45 gal f/w a 30 gal s/w and a 5 gal nano. i just bought a 12 gal jbj nano cube. its on its way here. i was wondering whats the best way to cycal the tank and also are there ways to speed the cycling up. also would it be good to move all my 5 gal things to the 12 gal when i get it set up. sould i keep the lights on when the tank is cycling. also was this a good tank choice or should i have got something diffrent. also i found a nice suprise in my 5 gal. i was watching it one night and i seen some lags moving in this tree coral i just bought. come to find out i had about 4 to 5 serpent starfish in the rock that the tree came on. i need to know what to watch for when cycling the tank. all info will be helpfull and thanks to every one that will try to help me with my new tank.
 
Moving filter media from a cycled tank to a new tank or seeding the sand/gravel with some from a cycled tank is the fastest way. A few pieces of seeded live rock or a pound or two of live sand pretty much should instantly cycle a tank that small.
 
Yeah, I agree. Take some sand and LR from one of the cycled tank and do your aquascaping. Do a water change on the cycled tank and fill the nano with that water. This will minimize the die off on the LR.

You tank will already be cycled for the most part.
 
i was going to move all of my things from my 5 gal to my 12 its about 10 lbs of sand and a 8 lbs of rock
