cycling this fast?

Well I have gotten a Nitrate test and I do have a small amount in the tank about 5ppm. Nitrite and ammonia are still zero. I am sure that my chemicals levels will fluctuate once I add fish, but I’m hoping that I have a nice starter colony of bacteria. I have been trying to add the same amount of food to the tank as I would feed a stocked tank, but of course that is far from a stocked tank.

Since it is a small tank and you are limited to small fish, I would only add one or two every week or so, at least at first and test and see how things are going. Sounds like you lucked out :D , congrats!!

I'll let everyone know when the fish are in

Well I finally found some fish. I was looking for something more exotic, but I also want to see the fish I was going to buy (instead of ordering them on-line). So, I ended up getting three little Neon Sunburst Platys. They were some of the prettiest little fish in the county. Plus I've never kept platys before. I'm sure they will be similar to mollies and swordtails, which I have kept, but I hope these three will bring some new to my little tank. I wanted to keep the two female to one male ratio. So, I ended up with three. Anyway I'm very happy with them. I'll check the tank chemicals this evening to see how things might have changed.

Day two with the platies is going well My nitrate is around 1 ppm and ammonia and nitrite are at zero, hopefully things will stay like this over the next couple weeks.
