I have some reagent grade ammonium cloride that I want to use to cycle my 55 gallon tank; however, I am unable to find sufficent information on how to do so.

I am not sure how much to use, one place stated 2 teaspons per 20 gallons(I think). I am wondering about how much to use and whether I should use LS at the same time or wait a while before I add LS.

Can anyone give me some advice?

55g=208L
NH4Cl is 33.7% NH4
for our purposes, water =1g/mL

You want, let's say 5ppm NH4 which is 5mg/L

5mg/L*208L=1040mg NH4

1040mg NH4/33.7% NH4=3086mg=3.086g

Bulk Desnity of Ammonium Chloride is important here...
What brand do you have? ACS Reagent grade, for most distributors, it's density is ~1.52g/mL
3.086g/1.52g/mL=2.03mL=2/5 teaspoon.

is the two teaspoons per 20 gallons rule correct?

and should I have LS in the tank at the beginning along with ammonium cloride or should I wait a while?
