alright i have been fishless cycling for about two weeks. and i added bio spira four days ago . my ammonia is 1.0 nitrite is 0.50 and nitrate is 10 is this going like it is suppose to. i have a 55 gal tank with live plants. it seems like it is taking a long time after reading some post that only took 6-8 days to go through this. thanks

That works good if you already have a tank, or know someone that does, but if you don't, you still have to cycle that first one.

Your LFS would more than likely be able to help you out there.

Wait... what?

You started fishless cycleing, then decided to do Bio-spria?

Did you read the directions on the bottle? That part that says add BioSpira and add fish?

If you are going to buy it, you ought to just drain the tank, refill, add the biospira and add fish. When you add it to a tank with ammonia already, it takes awhile to get through all that ammonia and nitrite. It is designed to be added to clean water, with fish added.

I realize it is too late for you, but for others who may read this in the archives, don't do this, just pick one way or the other. If you are going to spend the money on the Biospira, make it easy on yourself and follow the directions!

I agree that if you already have bio-spira then just start fresh, add bio-spira and add fish.

Also you have live plants in your tank and that will slow down the cycle as the plants use up the ammonia and nitrite before the bacteria gets to it.

this is my advice on ANY chemical:
read the instructions BEFORE you buy it.
