Two of my Tiger Barbs have been acting really weird. They swim around each other like they are dancing and the sometimes look like they are kissing. I have seen this twice this week and it is the same two barbs that are doing this. Are they mating? Or just acting werid.

Tiger barbs are crazy fish and I love 'em!
Mine chase each other evrywhere, around the plants, through rock caves.. back and forth along the length of the tank.. they're just nuts! and a lot of fun to watch.

mine do that "kissing" thing also I dont think they are mating, they are notoroius nippers...and I think they are just playing...

That sounds like fighting to me.

They are establishing dominance within the schoal.

Well, they have been together for quite some time now and it is only one male and female who are doing it, So from the postings I think that they are just playing more actively than normal. Thanks for the help.:)

Are you sure it is a male and female. Tiger barbs are not the easiest fish to sex.

Yes, there is a complet defferance between these two fish. I have three that have very round bellys with a little red on the dorsal and one that has a red noise and dorsal fin. That fish (male im sure) doesnt have the belly and is smaller in size.

Im not worried about them though. They get along really well, its just latly that they have been swiming in circles around each other. Its quite interesting to watch.

i noticed that some of my tiger barbs do the same thing. i feel that they are just establishing their pecking order or something? but when its a male and female, it could be mating...not sure on that though. do you ever notice your barbs doing headstands swimming with their noses pointing the ground? i read somewhere online that behavior had to do with mating.

Typical behavior.

I read the same thing, but no, I only see them doing headstands when they are sleeping.
