De-Humidifier Water

Eek! Never thought of all that goop. It was just about a quart at the most. I shan't do that anymore!
In general, conserving water around here is a necessity, so I'm always looking for shortcuts.
Who else uses their fish water (and dehumidifer water) to put on the flowers and stuff? I figure fish water is full of good nutrients for plants.

I always water my plants with the fish tank water. And any extra gets dumped into the garden outdoors. My house plants love it and seem to thrive, even though I am in a basement and get little sunlight. Conserving water is a good thing but I wouldn't put "used" water into my fish tank. Plants are great at stripping out toxins and goop but fish aren't. I would use the dehumidifer to make that lawn look really nice.

I use it run a hose right into my sump never have to top off my central system I added carbon and a some (RO/DI)absorbing resins to the collection jug and added my hose a few inches from the bottom.

BTW anyone who thinks the water from the dehumidifier is nasty go look in your toilet tank do you think the miles of pipe leading to you house look any less goopy.Plus there are no phosphates, amonia, iron, heavy metals, arsnic, blah blah blah in the humidifier water IMHO

If the dehumidifier has copper coils, it has plenty of copper. Plus, the stuff from the pipe isn't a stagnant bacteria/fungus culture. What you see in the toilet tank is sediment collected over a long timecourse.
I guess we all are allowed to assess risks as we see fit. I use RO for the reef, for the rest I'll take the water that the state of Maryland has guaranteed is fit for my consumption.

No dehumidifier water for me. Whatever junk is in the air gets blown over the wet coils... innoculating the water with all kinds of goodies.

I'll never forget when we got back from vacation a few years ago. The cats' litter boxes had got a bit full and were giving off a faint ammonia smell. The dehumidifier sat a few yards away, and the water smelled strongly of ammonia.

Maybe if the water were well filtered (a la what somefinnfishy describes) I might consider it, but only as a last resort.

I don't and wouldn't use dehumidifier water for the tanks, but I certainly do for the outdoor plants. The bananas would not have made it through last summer'd drought without that water.

Remember that dehumidifier water is distilled, meaning there are no minerals or salts, it is water in its purest form. I use mine to top off my aquarium from time to time because the tap water is so hard here. Hasn't hurt my fish yet.

If your dehumidifier takes a few weeks or months to fill up I would not use the water for aquaria because like others have said it will have alot of dust, contaminations and mildew in it. Mine has to be emptied daily so it is always clean.
