Setting up a tank for my son and I want to make things as easy and mess free as possible. The tank is right next to his sink so I was looking at something like the Aqueon water changers that connect to the faucet so he can go directly to the sink and not worry about buckets, etc. If we fill directly to the tank and then add Prime dechlorinator is this okay? or should we add the dechlorinator to the water first, mix and then add to the tank? Also, I assume we need to get the temp of the water close before adding it back? How close to the tank water?

I use the aqueon water changer, and it's AWESOME. I usually add prime (or any other water conditioner) straight into the tank right after filling it.
What size tank do you have? It may be easier for you to just used a bucket to do water changes, personally I use buckets on everything 10 gallons and under. If it's a bigger tank, than a water changer like the aqueon one is wicked helpful, I've cut the time to do water changes in half. (Takes me about 30 minutes to do a 37, 55, and 125, as opposed to it taking an hour doing buckets on just the 55)

as long as you get the temp as close as you can, it should be fine, but make sure to monitor it because I know my faucet will feel fine, then it will get hotter, so I have to go turn up the cold, it's weird :/, but just put th dechlorinator in before, everything should work out 
I get my temp as close as possible and then add the water and Prime to the water as it goes in.
I've not had a problem with that yet.

I'm sure you already know this, but I'm throwing it out there just in case...
Use the dechlorinator dosage recommended for the amount of new water you're adding, not the amount it would take to dose the entire tank. In other words, if you're adding 2 gallons of tap to the tank, dose for 2 gallons...not for 10 or 20 gallons or whatever size your tank is.
If you over dose, it won't be the end of the world, but over time, an excess of the chemicals could start causing problems.

Prime directions say to dose the amount for the whole aquarium volume if your adding it to the tank.
I always pretreat before adding always have a couple 5g jugs ready to go.
A given amount of Prime will neutralize a given amount of Cl and NH3. Having the reaction occur in a larger volume of water will theoretically slow it down somewhat, but not enough to matter. By directing that one dose for the whole tank the mfg is calling for a several times increase in usage, aka sales. The product is so harmless that the higher dosages pose no safety risk so it works very well for the aquarist and better for the mfg, and no one is the wiser.
I've accidentally added water cold enough to drop the tank 10F...not great for the fish but they survived. Generally I just go by feel and it seems to work.
As for the dechlor, I try to add it before but never had a problem if I forget and add shortly after. The process isn't instant anyways.

Before or after. I had done both. Dosing full tank or just what I believe i changed, done both also. Its up to you.
