For quite a while now i've used a 55 gallon tank to grow out firemouths, salvini, and a few other american cichlids here and there. I am to a point now where i need to either sell off the stock and restock with small juvi's again (i've found a nice demand for semi-adult cichlids locally), or decide what i want to keep and sell the rest (turning it into a perm tank rather than grow out). I've decided to make it a perm tank, especially because of the unusually nice color and finnage of my current stock. The tank currently has...
3 firemouths (one 5 inch, two 4 inch)
2 salvini (one 4inch, one 3inch)
1 green severum (3-4 inch)
2 lace cats.
NOTE: all the fish have grown up together from 1 inch or smaller, so there is actually very little aggresion FOR NOW
other info....
two of the firemouths have paired but are not laying eggs (probably due to the heavy stock) the other one gets harrassed by the 2 and over the last few days has lost a few scales).
the salvini are a pair and have bred in another tank but like the firemouths havent tryed to lay eggs.
the severum gets ignored by everyone except when he picks a fight with the big firemouth female.
laces cats stay on their own sides of the tank.
tank has lots of caves, hiding places, ect.
I am moving the odd firemouth to a 20L tomorrow (jewel grow out tank, but right now only has 2 1inch jewels, t-barbs and large corys). once he heals i'll probably sell him.
What would make a good perminant stock for this tank out of the fish i already have (plus some dithers).
