decor for figure 8 tank?

bump

yeh, bump for this guy... i also just got figure 8 puffers and need to know what will look good/ survive in my brackish waters....

thanks fellas

For mine I went with no plants, just the water wonders fake stump thing, then piled rocks around it, and fake plants. The other fish shown in the picture have since been removed and it's just the figure 8 now. And I finally started converting to brackish after a month and a half.

i use bog wood, lots of real vallis plants / jarva ferns and orniments that puffers can hide in like caves.
Will post pic of tank this weekend.

Petsmart sells wonderful mangrove roots in different sizes & shapes.

How much work and money do you want to put into it? If you want a low maintanence easy setup then go all fake, some large rocks, driftwood, a couple of good looking fake plants, and some kinda background like the in-tank rock walls and the like. You wont need bright lighting and you can choose whatever substrate you want. I personally like the look of black sand with my fig 8's although my current setup is going to aragonite.

If you want to put some money and a lot of work into it you can go live plants. But with live plants your going to be very limited and need to pay special attention. You might have to get better lighting and better substrate. You'll be limited to a light brackish setup max .005 sg (higher than that and you plant list drops to about 2 species). Theres is a good thread on this over on the puffer forum about what plants can handle light brackish: http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4792&highlight= Plants will have to acclimate very slowly like .001 / week max and they'll need to be thriving before you start upping the salt or there is a good chance they wont make it. I would consider excell to be a must and ferts if the lighting is very high and if the plants are many.

Good luck!
