I came home last evening to see that my two larger dempsey's
were attacking the smaller one in my tank. The suppossed female
seemed to be the one doing most of the attacking. They are both
approx. 4" in length, with the male about a 1/2 " longer. She acts
almost like a lioness in heat and teasing the male lion in order to
signal that she is ready. "she" doesn't get nearly as dark, doesn't
have that much blue freckling on her face, but more on her flanks
and sides. "SHE" also flaunts herself by displaying and erecting
her fins and everything at their brightest colors, with occassional
gill flaring, but no biting/jostling. His fins appear to be slightly
ending more in a point than hers. He also has a tremendous amt.
of facial, gill freckles-almost a large connected single freckle-and
he generally is very dark during this time-accept he has some
stripes near the dorsal fin. Is this a sign that they are bonding
for breeding? If so, would giant danio's, clown pleco, and
fossilis catfish represent danger to any eggs? Please let me know
of your opinions. Thankyou.
