I had a severe diatom outbreak in a tank set up with sand about 2 months ago. I added the Seachem Phosguard in an Eheim 2236 and within 3 days diatoms were gone. The Phosguard absorbs silicates that diatoms feed on. Very impressed.

I'm in the midst of a similar outbreak at the moment. Nice white pool filter sand is now brown and dingy. Tank is only a few months old so I expect that it will clear up as the silicates are used up, but the Seachem Phosguard sounds like a possible way to speed up the process. I'm not familiar with it. Is there any danger to plants and/or fish by treating with it?

Absolutely not. The Phosguard only absorbs phosphates and silicates. I could have waited but couldn't stand the look of ugly brown spots on my CaribSea Torpedo Beach sand, which I absolutely love.

LOL just give it time, silicates will be used up in a few weeks
