Did Harry "Garami" swallow a watermelon? Please help

Water: Amm .0%; Nitrites .0; Nitrates betw. 7-10; I do water changes/vac normally 2xweek, 35%; I've upped it to 25% 3xweek. Water stays in pristine condition. I did recently add 2 anacharis bunches (I finally realized the Flourish I was putting in to feed them melted them).

So, I've had these 3 powder blue dwarf gourami for @ 6 months--my first fish. They're still in the 10 gallon; I've plans for a couple of 29's this summer. Two came together from LFS; the other from PetSmart. They've done very well together in terms of territory; I have plants, objects for them to stake off and hide in. Minor skirmishes of chasing, that's about it.
About 3 weeks ago, Harry (of Harry and Larry) started to swell a little.

Gave them peas, and veggie flakes in case it was constipation. He continued to swell, with no pineconing of scales, so I picked up some Maracyn 2. 6 days of dosing per directions, nothing. From what I've gathered on AC, it's not dropsy, and not bacteria--unless a more virulent strain that takes 2 courses of the Maracyn 2. He's continued to be quite active, eats, darts about, chases Larry and Spike, had a couple long veeeery thin white poops--so I'm thinking parasites. Now he's huuge, loves to get in the bubbles around the heater wand (aaaaahh, eases the stretching--Maybe it's Alien!!).

Hopefully someone else can coment, but you said it got worse after the peas and veggie flakes? You might try taking them off of that and feeding some frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp. I feed mine frozen blood worms and brine shrimp on alternate days and have never had that happen to one of mine. I also don't think that they are vegitarians, and that they probably eat insects, larvae, and worms in the wild.
Hopefully someone else can confirm or correct me though.

I have fed them the more veg diet to encourage pooping if it was constipation. Didn't work so they're back on normal protein diet of frozen bloodworms, pellets and flakes. Figured it would help keep up their immune systems to fight this whateveritis. Thanks for the response.

Any swimming problems you can spot?

Also just try feeding them less. A major cause of death in fish is overfeeding.

Nope, no swimming problems at all; I don't overfeed my fish. During this "episode" I've been even more sparing. Also, some days I feed only once, and I'll skip a day a couple of times a week. He really looks like he's just been stopped up!

It had been more on the right side, Bunny, but in the last couple of days it's evened out. Still no pineconing, don't know how he's doing it!! I've been trying to upload photos to no avail tonite. Guess my electrical energy isn't jibing with the 'pooter. He really looks like he's going to explode--but he's just going along his merry way, cruising around the tank, tail-tagging Larry. . .ah, man, this is awful, these little guys are so cool. :(

I have 3 dwarf gourami in the tank--they got a tiny pinch this morning, nothing tonite--previous days it's been a tiny pinch of flakes twice a day and skipped Wednesday. I'll cut them off for 2 or three--they'll probably nibble some on the anacharis. Thanks for your suggestion; apparently it's a mystery to others, too, as there have been 100 hits and only 4 responses. As long as he shows no signs of stress I'll keep observations. :joe:

wow! I saw the pics you posted, and I have to say I dont think it is from overeating or constipation, but I have no idea as to what else it could be. If he seems healthy otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much, just keep an eye on him and time will tell. Unless someone else has a better idea from the pics.
