So i was roaming the LFS today, when i came across some very healty 2.5-3 inch gold nugget plecos. Now the guy at the LFS is very trustable, and he told me these were wild caught, but had been eating and were treated with meds for well over 3 weeks. Anyways, the one i got lookes very simular to this one....

It has larger spots. That brings me to my question, is it true the large spot gold nuggets are more hardy then the small spot?

Or should i have gone for the small spot gold nugget? (had one before, but starved to death, because it did not eat)

Small GN's are notoriously hard to keep at first and form what i have learnt the bigger the better.
go to this link and you should be able to find most of the varients - each page should have details of each fish including diet, aquarium etc.

thanks!

Ive got a bigger one 3+ inches with the large dots. Now he looks healthy, but he ot eating yet. He just sticks on the back glass, even when the light go out. Im worried now i may loose yet another.

Is it possible, hes just adjusting to his new environment, and will shorty thereafter start eating?

Don't know to be honest never kept a GN
My L102 took about a week to fully sadjust and venture into the fornt half of the tank

Not eating and keeping still for more than a few hours is not normal. They usually rest for several hours, but spend most of the time moving around grazing. I'd say if its more than a day or so, its not good.

Find out what it was eating at the LFS. I have had a bunch of gold nuggets die on me. They really do not ship very well, very fragile. I now have one that was doing great at the LFS and was cheap, so I got it. It is doing great now and very pretty. It eats zuchinni and sinking pellets.

I know understand when people say that gold nuggets are agressive plecos. It is the most aggressive of all the plecos that I am currently keeping...L066, L134, and albino ancistrus. In the past I have kept royals, they are kind of agressive as well.

Thats a good idea, but the problem is, im going camping for a week tomorrow, so i'll have to keep giving him cuccumber and algae (spirlina) tabs, and just hope he eventually eats.

I hope i don't loose another gold nugget, this guy looks awsome.

Thanks again guys.
