:help:

Ok so heres the story:

I had two "yo yo" loaches, about 2-3" long and knew that if I added more they would be more social. The man at the petstore told me that clown loaches would be fine to add since they are similar colors. I added two clown loaches, aboiut 4" each. Time goes by and I only see one (clown) loach swimming around. For a while I figured the other loaches found a great hiding spot in the tank but recently I looked all around the tank, pulled the driftwood out, and only could find the one loach that has been around. No signs of the other loaches at all!! Its like they just disappeared!! :( FYI- I'm never gone for more than a day, so if they died and floated I woudl have seen them!! Any Ideas of what happened?

Other fish in the tank:
3 Angelfish
8 Black Skirt tetras

what size tank is this?
Clown loaches can get up to 16 inches long.

As with any schooling fish the more the better, usually 6 fish are reccomended to form a school and dissipate the agression.

I would reccommend returning cle clowns and depending on your tank size, exchange them for YoYo's...

No, I doubt they would want to kill the Yoyos. Maybe they died and the snails got to them?

Clowns can be tempted by longer fins but that's about as far as they will go...I think something else is afoot.

What size tank?
What are you exact ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings?
Did you QT the new fish?
Any signs of disease on any of your fish?
Are all the fish acting/eating normally?

it could even be buried under the subterate but probably it's inside of an ornament. i don't think it would have been killed by another loach. they usually enjoy each others company

Here are some other answers

Ok here goes:

my tank size is 33gal
The yo yos were fine before I added the clowns

Nitrate is a bit high - Ive been working with the water changes to get that down

Dont know about the other exact ammonia/nitrites at the moment (im not home to check) but if they died from that wouldnt I have seen them?

No snails or other bottom feeders to eat them!

Tank is covered and no signs of fish on the floor! (yuck!)

I took the driftwood completely out and no signs of fish (the bigger clown loach slid out as I pulled it out) thereis three of them so I can't imagine that even if I missed a tiny spot one could hide that all three could hide so well!! I have plants that they liked to hide behind before, but no signs of them there either.

Also, I am not all about laoches - I did really liek the yo yos but now feel bad and dont really want to go get more. The clown loach now that it is on its own swims around a lot. I thought that was a bit odd.

Other than the disappearing loaches the fish are fine.

sand substrate

Do you think they would be buried way under the sand? I was used to seeing them at feeding time thats when I realized I was only seeing one.
