WHat gets me is when the cop starts into a room, then stops and either pops open the cylinder of his revolver or ejects the magazine on his semi auto to check for ammo.

A- little late then, and B- wasn't it loaded when you left the Station; bullet fairie stealing the loads?

I love it when they put a 'silencer' the size of a D-cell on a revolver. pfft, pfft

these shows crack me up in how they dress the women charaacters. I can't imagine any woman wishing to be taken seriously would dress like that. It's ridiculous.

Ok, sans the gloves... What's wrong with her 'tomboy' look in the photo above?

What kills me is when they go in after bad guys or looking for evidence with little, two cell flashlights instead of the big, lightweight, rechargeable 10-20 million candlepower hand-held spotlights.

As well, luminol, the stuff they spray to find bloodstains, is insanely toxic....in real life, the investigators leave, and guys in enviro-suits and self contained breathers come in and spray the luminol, and after 30 minutes, once it has dried, the investigators are allowed back in.

More, real CSIs wear cleansuits, hair-covers, booties, and gloves at scenes, but I guess that the cast of CSI just do not look glamorous enough that way.

Also, CSIs do not carry guns, interview suspects, or even run lab tests...and in both the US and Canada, CSIs are police....ex regular cops that specialise...not civilians/academics that become CSIs.

I like CSI, but it is really, really innacurate.

those little lights are awesome...

when i enter buildings they are great for blinding potential targets, and at the same time identifying them.

and they are insanely bright and very very expensive my tac light was 109$

Joe...there's nothing wrong with the way she's dressed...but a professional would not dress that way on the job. Women who want to be taken seriously on the job do not wear midriff baring/cleavege showing articles of clothing. Unless theirs is the world's oldest profession :D

Toirtis makes a good point...why let the facts get in the way of a good story. I watch medical shows and see things that would never happen the way they are done on TV, so I assumed that the whole genre of CSI type shows were probably the same.

Some of the discrepancies are also for practical reasons....in reality, DNA tests take much longer, as do fingerprint database searches, forensic entymological work, get warrants and court-orders, etc....if they were relying on these sorts of things and portayed them at the speed they would actually happen, it would take them days or weeks to get results, which would make for a boring show.

Plus, 99% of forensic and detective departments don't come even close to being able to afford most of the technological toys that you see on these shows....the molecular sniffers, computer simulation systems, etc...many of which are real things, just really spendy.

And have you noticed how they strut around wearing heels? And not chunky heels. If I wear 2-3 inch heels on conrete/linoleum all day, my pups are KILLIN' me!!
But it just wouldn't be the same, would it??? All that sexy stuff (including quick responses in the lab, seeing the intent look on Delco's or Warrik's face when examining prints or other evidence--and the sexy outfits on the gals) make it sooooo much more captivating. After all, It is just TV, after all!! Otherwise, one of the first things Mork would have done would have been to go to DC to meet with the President!!! LOL

Well, actually, them using the flashlights in the fashion they do is correct.

What is does is help train the eye to focus on one spot at a time. If you just had all the lights on then everything would be illuminated the same. And a wash effect would happen making seeing small objects or patterns and indiscrepencies harder to see. With the flashlight it concentrates your eyes to one area helping to keep your peripheral vision from distracting you.

Well, I really don't know, it just sounded like a good explanation. But, I have seen video from news that shows police officers using small flashlights to look for evidence at a crime scene. And a few were during the day, so there has to be a reason for it.
