Disappearing Zucchini?

Ok...weird question. Last night I put 2 small pieces of blanched zucchini in the tank for the fish, as I've done before. Because the zucchini was very seedy, by the time I took the seeds out the 2 pieces I put in were basically the zucchini 'rind', only maybe a quarter inch or so thick. I always net the leftover zucchini out the next morning. This morning, however....I cannot find anything left of either of the zucchini pieces, anywhere. When lights went out last night, the fish were going to town on it (well, all except the tetras). I would just assume they had eaten it all, but I thought they couldn't eat the skin for some reason?
Anyway, I'm just concerned that if there is some left hidden in the tank somewhere, it could rot and cause an ammonia spike. I've really looked everywhere, in all the decor, etc. and don't see it, but I'm not about to take everything out of my tank to search for it. What's the verdict....do you think they ate it, skin and all? Or if not, would it cause issues for my tank? Thanks

You may want to get some smaller zucchini or try some squashes too. They has less seeds.

Thanks for the quick responses. I haven't checked my filter, but I run a Rena canister filter and the intake has really small slots in it that nothing but maybe little fibers of the zucchini could fit through. I was thinking that especially the SAEs could perhaps eat the skin, but I'm not sure.
I do have some summer squash actually, I'll try that next time. I may try the fork next time as well, the question my bf asked when I suggested that one time was, isn't it possible metal from the fork could leech into the tank?
I'm hoping that if it's a small enough piece of rind I couldn't find it, it's not going to be an issue. I'll still test my ammonia the next couple of days to be sure I guess.

isn't zucchini a squash?? ;)

I suspect it got eaten..my bn's love the skin if it's soft enough.

Yep they are a squash.....I was thinking of the common names when you go to the grocery store...yellow squash etc...

the fork is perfectly safe to use. I use a plastic coated chip clip with a string attached that I leave to hang out of teh tank, makes it super easy to remove it. The rind in the tank if not eaten will not cause a spike, you will be fine.
