Discus energy requirements

hey y'all.

today i saw this really cool looking discus tank on ADG. I beleive it was 265 gallons.

Just wondering, how much kW would a 1.25kW heater (heating the 265) drain in 24 hours?
assuming the ambient room temp was 71* and the tank was heated to 81*.

all im asking is what the normal energy drainage of a heater.

That's a pretty complex thermodynamics question. Variables are ambient room temp, tank temp, ambient rate of fluctuation over volume, rate of heat increase over volume due to the heater, energy efficiency of the heater, total time the heater is on, etc.

If it's a 1.25kW/H heater, then every hour it's on it would use 1.25kW. I don't know if that's how they're rated or not though. If it is, you'd just have to figure out an average amount of time it's on in a 24 hour period, and multiply.
