Hi! As I've said already in other polls I'm planning on upgrading my 30G tank to a 38G tank (which is 36"L x12"W x 20"H). Discus have always been my dream and I was wondering, now that I will be moving all the fish from one place to another, if I could, after moving the fish currently in this tank to another tank, have 3 discus in this tank with a few more fish (like a school of 8 cardinals or rummy nose), and with artificial plants. Please I would appreciate any answers, recommendations, pros, cons, anything so I can make up my mind and be very well oriented. I know I can always count on you guys. Thanks!

No discus need to be in a group of 5 or more. with a group of three two will pick on the 3rd till it dies then turn on each other.

Depending on the other fish you might be able to do just one.

So that behavior is exactly like some angels I had once. Had an established couple and another male. The other male was being picked on by the couple, then he got furious, killed the female, then killed the husband, and then died after 2 months...it was like a soap opera! So, what else would you recommend me Draal? What could be a possible discus setup in this 38G tank? (including other fish and amount)

No! I would not get any discus with your current setups, and 3 is the worst number of discus. The minimum tank for a discus is a 55gal with 5 discus in it...a 38 is too small for 4 discus. One discus...hmm, its possible, but I would suggest having more than one discus, its very entertaining to watch discus interact with each other.

We have twelve 4"discus in a 40 gallon Breeder tank.

They are fine as long as you maintain your water, we feed 4 to 5 x a day and do a 20 - 30% WC daily. At the hatchery they keep 40 in a 40 with no problems. Eventually when they start to grow you will need to place them into larger tanks. We also have a spawning pair in a 29 and are setting up 20High's for 6 more pair.

Listen to these people about the amount you keep together.(get at least 6 /2.5" and grow them .)

Exactly what I was trying to say, though I was looking at the discus long term, assuming that they would stay in that tank their whole lives.

If you get only 1 discus, most likely it will spend the majority of its time hiding from you and whetever else is in its tank..

If you cant get at least 5, dont get any. You'll have problems..
