Discus Pics....

Great looking fish!

I like the red melon! The blue diamond isn't half bad either...are the striped ones wild?

The blues are young blue cobalts. Their coloring is similar to a blue diamond but a blue diamond has no bars or striations, they're solid light blue with red eyes. When the blue cobalts are mature and have their final coloration, I'll post comparison pictures of their color as juvies and then as adults. They are amazing when they are adults! None of them are wild strains.

theyre really cool looking, i like the yellow/white one with the blue splatter on it

That's my female white butterfly. It made me realize the male white butterfly didn't make it into any of the pictures. That splatter that you see is called peppering. It's not very desireable. You'll run into peppering whenever there's a strain of discus with pigeon blood in it. She had no peppering until she began to spawn. Discus darken their bodies at spawning time and grow heavy slime coat that the babies need to eat. Once the fry hatch and need to eat, they will try to find their parents to attach on to the slime coat. If the parents aren't readily recognizable as being dark, they will be attracted to the darkest thing in the tank....and it just might be the sponge filter! Many times you'll see breeders cover up the black sponge of the filter with a piece of white pantyhose. And that is why. So this breeding brought out the black pepper in both her and her mate, and then it stays.
