dollars no.. there a bit nippy... and angels.. people do pull it off but you have to consider tank size as there both cichlids

It is touch and go on both. The larger the tank, the better times I have had with the mix. Introducing all at once seems to help greatly.

are you adding discus to a tank that has established angels?

158 gallons..nice size tank.

I added discus to a tank that had angels added first..the angels were near adult size the discus were just about 3"

at first the angels were more aggressive..but the discus soon learned to compete for food with tha angels.
one thinkg I did was feed in 2-3 locations..these fish have been in this tank set up nearly 1 year..the discus are now larger than the angels.and easily will compete with the angels.
with that size tank you can get a prety good school of discus and angels. (yes angels when in larger numbers, school)

The question is how much experience do you have with discus?....IMO I would NOT keep silver dollars or Angels with Discus if it were me...but then again in a tank that size I feel like you could get away with it though...What kinds of decorations are you planing on having in this tank?....Just keep up w/ your water changes (approx 2-3x 50% weekly)...I think that in a tank that size a school of about 10-15 discus would be awesome with several different types of dither tetras (ie 100+ cardinals, maybe some hatchet fish, huge schools of cories on the bottom...I mean the possibilites are various and almost endless after you get your display fish). Thanks all, well my discus seem to be ok i only have 2 my silver dollars are ata very large size but don't seem to bother the discus ( my silver dollars have such a personality the two get a pellet and actually share it )
