discus questions

kensdiscus...LOL

that is ken here in Seattle(well northgate)

I got all my discus from him..he's a stand up guy..

sun devil picked up a few from him too

he's got some good pricing too..shipping will be a bear tho.

ken will ship the discus..prob with heat packs and O2.

see what he's got..in stock.. I have the cobalt reds, pigeonblood and white red diamonds.
all very healthy.
the pigeon bloods are only $15 ea or 4-$50 very nice price.I saw pigeon bloods at petco for $45 ea and they were not near the quality ken has.

Yup - agreed on all counts. I have two leopards and an "orange" which really looks more to me like a pigeonblood. I am going back for another in the next week or so.

best thing to do is find a reliable pet store or hatchery and DRIVE to pick them up. That way you'll be able to pick out your discus and get the ones that are healthiest. I drive about 2 hours each way to pick up my discus...but its worth it for the quality and customer service.

ok, i guess that makes sense with the conditioning to just add the hole tank dosage never really thought of it like that.

I did run a few searches for discus hatcherys in my area and came up with NOTHING. I have only honestly ever seen one discus in a pet store, and a customer traded it in for a big old oscar. Im afraid i may have to buy online which i hate to do, but if its the only way its worth it. I have come across a few sites that i liked, one was called Kensdiscus.com and the other was SomethingsPhishy.com Has anyone ever ordered from either of these sites?

Jay
I've been researching while I build my 80-90g setup. I've been watching somethingsphishy.com for around 6 months, and have also looked around several forrums for anyone that has dealt with them. I've traded a few emails with the owner and he seems very knowledgable. I should be ready for discus in the next 4 months (taking it slow and careful). I'll let you know how it all turns out, but I do plan on ordering from them (mostly based on price compared to what you can get locally).

yes, somethingphishy does seem to have nice pricies, and good looking fish, and plus the shipping isnt that horrible. VtwinFanacatic, the problem with my location is that i am unable to find any discus remotley near me, the closes one i could find is in virgina which is about a 6 hour drive.... i looked in rhode island, vermont, new hampshire, maine, connecicut and new york.... i found one in new york but way out in buffalo, which is also about 5-6 hours.....

ok, another question on suitable tankmates, i do wanna keep the BGK in there, as well as hopefully the serpaes, maybe a pair or 2 of the german blue rams?? I also do like cardinals and neons, but am worried about the BGK with them... rummynose look ok 2 but hard to find around my local fish stores.... any other ideas?

anyone wanna chime in on my post above?? Also, do the conditioners that claim to add back "trace minerals" lost during filtration that are important to discus do anything worthwile, i saw this product and went hmmmm... i wonder if its worth my money??

If anyone could help me out with this question and my question in my previous post, it would be apprciated.

Thanks,
Jay

keeping the BGK is the question..hard to say how the BGK reacts.

as far as adding trace...what trace do you lose in a water change? most of the time you are adding trace back in at water change, using tap.

tho I believe that even prime may add some trace.
