discus rehab project

Ok good...since they are responding to the Furan, then it is bacterial we are dealing with. Keep up the water changes and salt in the tank along with the Furan....continue the Furan treatment for a full 14 days...even if they get better because if you cut the treatment short, the bacteria might get stronger again and they will develop a resistance to the Furan. So, carry the treatment out for a full 14 days and they should be fine.

Wel I lost the smallest guy yesterday, he was the weakest of the group, and didn't make it. Hopefully the rest of them can hold on through the treatment.

I've done the exact same thing, I can't just let sickly discus die in the pet store. I have 1 that has made it of the 7 I tried to save. When they are already sick the transport seems to take the fight out of them.
Good luck.

Update:

The big green guy is looking great - no more clamping fins, eyes are clear, starting to display some color again. One of the yellow ones is maintaining, not really loking any better or worse. The other yellow one is losing his fins, in the past 36 hours like 30% of his tail looks like it just rotted off. Apparently whatever is doing it is not responding to the Furan2....any suggestions? My LFS does not carry formalin, would another anti-parasitic med work as well?

Well still not sure if its fin rot or nippiness from the bigger guy, but I put in a divider just in case. The big green one is by himself and the two yellows are on the other side, they're about the same size and seem to get along. Haven't seen any bullying, but just in case....

Ok, well. The green one actually looks to be a turquoise...since I put the divider in he's colored up a LOT and is a very pretty fish.

The little yellow one however is not looking so hot. His dorsal fin is almost gone and he's got what looks like a little puff of mold on the fin. I guess I'll go to the store tomorrow and pick up some Melafix and see if that helps. Still treating with Furan2 and salt. Any suggestions more than welcome!

Well I woke up yesterday and the yellow one with fin rot was dead, as well as the large green one. The yellow one I get, but hte green one was looking really good, and was dead like 12 hours later. Anyway, I'm down to the one yellow guy, and hes looking alright for the time being. Hopefully I can hang on to this one.

Hang in there and keep us posted.
you're doing a terrific job.

Well the one thats left seems to be doing well. Finally got some pictures.
