My Co2 never lasted three weeks; it barely made it to two, but I replaced ¼ of the white sugar with dark brown, and it’s MUCH more consistent and I’m at 2 ½ weeks. I haven’t seen anything about using brown sugar, and I don’t know why it made such an improvement, but I wanted to throw it out there for anyone else struggling with consistent DIY Co2.

I should mention I’m nowhere near the green thumb most of you guys are, so try at your own risk!! :)

Hmmm... I don't know the difference in the types of sugars. My DIY lasted... 2 months probably. I was too lazy to change it and it just kept spitting out tiny bubbles in a constant stream.

I'll try it out next time though :]

Dark brown sugar is granulated white sugar with molasses added to it. The molasses is adding additional nutrients the yeast can use to prolong their effectivity.

:iagree: tho brown sugar can also come from less refined sugar with more molasses left behind after under going only the first step of refinement.

I gave up on the regular sugar method and switched over to jell-o. It lasts way much longer.

toss in a multivitamin every week....and dont forget a little shake....i am now at umm 5 1/2 weeks on one diy yeast..
also make sure u only put in 1tsp of yeast to 2 cups of sugar...more yeast is not better in this case...

Is there any information about adding acid / making the pH of the solution acidic for the DIY solution? Because yeast alcohol fermentation is best at about a pH of 5. Considering alcohol is basic, it might be useful to lower the pH manually. Although...I do believe hydrogen ions are released in the reaction as well. Hmm, I should dig up my biochem text book lol
