DIY Sump

I had a spare 10 lying around (actually 2) gathering dust. I decided to try to turn it into a sump for S&K's. I wanted to see how easy or hard it would be to do one.

I went to the local glass shop and got a bunch of their scraps. I sorted them out and used 3/16" pieces for my dividers.I bought a tube of 100% pure silicone from the hardware store. Yes, it was pure as it took about 2-3 days to cure.Using a saw blade for aluminum, I cut the pieces on my radial saw. My overflow will handle a max of 700GPH as does my return pump.

It worked! It would be useful if I had used a 20 or larger but I only have 10's and 55's left open and this was just to see if I could do it. I found many things I need to change for any future sumps but this is a good mock-up or example for me to go by. I would feel safe limiting it to a 75 gallon tank but theoretically it could support 100 gallons.

So if you like to putz around making things, give it a shot! I had a blast making it.

Awesome! Got any pics to show us?
