OK I don't have any pics but here goes
Materials
Egg Crateing (The stuff used to filter lights) (Hardware Store = $13.00)
1/2 or 3/4" PVC Pipe (Clear if you wont) (Hardware Store = $3.00)
1/2 or 3/4" Female/Female cuppler (Hardware Store = $0.59)
Fiberglass screening (Hardware Store $6.00)
PVC Glue and Hot Glue (Hardware Store $3.00)
Amounts needed of all parts will vary but on average the cost is around $25.00. This works better then store bought ones and much easyer to repair. Depending on size of aquariem it may be cheaper or more expencive then a purchesed one which I don't like anyways
Constructions
Cut your egg crating a little smaller then the bottom of the aquarium (I like to make mine 2 peaces) To make the sides, front and back of the filter simple cut a peace of egg crating that is 1 or 2 holes tall and the length of the front and back and one hole shorter for the sides. I then hot glue or pvc glue to the bottome of the large egg crating. (You can use a sander to help remove bores fromt the egg crating if you would like)
Cut your screen to fit over the outside of the hole thing including the sides, front and back. I start at one side and glue the screen down with hot glue. I then spread PVC glue over the top and lay the screen down on the glue (I do mine in steps so to make sure the glue don't dry). I then hotglue the other side down. Now fold the front down and hot glue it in place. Cut the excess screen from the corners. Do the same for the back. Now trim the excess screening off. I spred a little extra glue around the corners. Oh yea I forgot to mention that I silicone the screen on from within the inside this seems to give a better grip.
If you are running a sump that required a hole to be drilled and don't need uprisers then you are finished.
To make the uprisers I simple glue the cuppler on with PVC Glue then when that is dry I applie hot glue for security. (Just glue the outside you don't wont to restrict any flow in the tube.) Ok now cut the length of the PVC to fit in the aquarium at the hight you would like.
Best system I have found ad works realy well for me however I put more substact at the rear inorder to eaven the flow of water comming through the substact.
My tanks seem to finish cycling a week earlyer using this filter when compared to the slit type bought in stores.
I know this is badly written with many spelling errors (New computer no spell checker yet) I am sorry I will try to give a better step by step with pics later on but I thought this might help some others so I quickly drew it up. If you have a hard time following it please let me know and I will try to help.
