Do bio-wheels cycle a tank faster?

I have a friend of mine that claims I GROSSLY overfiltrate my 55g with 2 Aquaclear 500's. When I only had one, I wasn't really pleased with the water circulation. I do not use a powerhead so it seemed like it took forever to move the debris floating on the opposite side of the tank.
Now, with 2, suspended debris is sucked up within a minute or so.
I could probably accomplish the same thing with 2 Aquaclear 300's, but for the price difference I figured Id get the bigger ones.

IMO, one filter on tanks 55g and larger is just not enough. When I used an Eheim 2026 as my sole filter I was horribly displeased with it. Sure it was ample filtration for my tank and the biologicals it housed were unmatched, but it simply wasn't enough mechanical filtration to suit my tastes.

gsk177 - you may even find a few hundred people on this board who will say that I grossly overfilter all of my tanks, and change too much water to boot. Fine, different stokes for different folks. When their fish live as long lives as mine do, and stay healthy, and breed as mine do, I might even consider listening to them. Until then, I'll continue overfiltering and doing large water changes. ;)

Here here Robert I am with you 1000%

As always Well said.

Especailly on long tanks, I find that 2 filter are the way to go. 1 HOB will just leave dead spots and since they are relatively cheap compared with canisters, I say why not have 2.
