Do Cory's tolerate salt?

I have been told that I should keep a small amount of salt in my freshwater aquarium. However, I have read that Corydoras catfish will not tolerate any amount of salt -- the guy at my LFS says they will. I have a betta in my community tank and everything I read says he should have some salt in his water. What is everyone elses experience with Cory's and salt and how much is possibly tolerated?

I agree with kveeti. Salt isn't needed and should be avoided unless you are using it to treat for parasites.

What you need to do, ET1, is read up on water hardness for those fish species. You'll find that they "prefer" hard water and people think that adding salt makes the water harder. It doesn't, it just makes it salty and thick . . .

I just made a post about this, in fact:
