hello.
i found a sweet deal on a 30g tank . 100$ for aquarium with stand eclipse hood and gravel +driftwood piece. anyways i did some reasearch and im getting really confused about the eclipse filter. some people love the very much and others say they are absolute pieces of trash. i dont know what to think. sme people say they get lot of problems like condensation ruining their carpet or the motor overheating.the guy im getting it from currently has a 6'' oscar and 3 plecos in it so it must work well. should i get a back up filter(auaclear or fluval ''mini'')?i wont have a huge bio load on it either so maybe i wont need much filtration. (mostly plants) im so confused help: :help: :help:

ohh no ones chimed in on a 6'oscar in a 30 gallon tank?...im shocked since the mimium for one is 55-75

The only thing I don't like about mine is the force of the outflow is pretty strong. If I don't have the tank filled to the very top it sounds like a toilet running all night. I think it filters just fine, though. If you want stronger lighting for it I saw retrofitting kits for Eclipses in the Drs FosterSmith catalog.

yeah i know abot the oscar. poor oscar.has anyone ever had problems with the hood overheating or whatever?

p.s. that is not the worst case of overstocking i ever saw. i have a friend who has a 30g wwith ac150.heres what he has in there-3 severums,2 kribs,i corydoras,3 black tetras i common pleco,a silvers shark, and a kuhli loach. hows that for ovestocking!!! i try to get him to get rid of some of them but he wont listen. he says as long as they have room to swim around their just fine. he wonders why every time he gets some new fish the whole tank falls sick AMMONIA HELLO!!!!!im so mad right now . jut writing about it im getting pissed at him. im gonna go run to cool down or ill bust a coronary. see ya

Eclipse hoods are good if you want a nice clean look.
Their filtration is adequate but the output is pretty high.
Dont expect to have room for expandability because with these hood you stuck with what you got.

i have a 30 gallon eclipse system that was sold to me by a friend that kept oscars in it too. he didnt have any problems with it. currently i have 6 cardinal tetras, 2 blue rams, and 2 angels. ive had no problems with the hood, no leakage and its very quiet and look great.

I have to agree. I'm using an Eclipse 3 on my 29g. But really these hoods only have adequate filtration for a small bioload due to the filters design.

So if you're only keeping small fish (i.e. 1-4") you will be fine.

Oh, and BTW, a 55g is not enough space for an oscar at all. Not even if it's the only fish in the tank. I've kept oscars before and the minimum I would keep them in 90-100g. What's most important is that the width of the tank is around 30".

HTH,

ill have a relatively small bio load. ill pu lots of plants in there.im thinking kuhli loaches, gouramis female bettas and some males in barracks.. im going for a southeast asia theme i guess. some angels would be nice too but their not from asia(who cares)
ill see. any counsel about the hood itself?is there a way to save on media its expensive!!!!

i think i read somewhere in the forums that you can just cut to fit a sponge filter and put it where the carbon filter media would be. i read that the carbon only lasts a week or two anyways and that the spone does a really good job at catching all the floaties that pass by
