Do Mystery Snails do well at eating algea?

For some reason I can never go without a good coat of algea growing in my tank. I belive my water is high in phosphates because all of my other nutrients that can cause algea are way to low for the amount of algea I have. So I'm going to go biological and get aglea eating animals to help control it. I was thinking about mystery snails since they are easy to care for and cheap and easy to get. So I was wondering how well they ate algea. I know that I need to give them other foods and what not. Is there a better, easily found (I only have a petsmart Wal-mart and a crappy LFS in my area) other snail that can do better?

Any help would be great.
 
To the best of my knowledge, the apple snails will eat the algae but I don't think they would keep your tank prestine.
 
They are far from efficient algae eaters, they tend to make *paths* through algae rather than remove it. Otos are good algae eaters as are olive nerite snails. What size tank and what is the stocking?
 
It is a 55 gallon tank with about 8 of these mollie fish (I forgot what they were called) in it. They are orange with a black spot that is on thier tails.

That is really it.
 
i wouldnt say there are great cleaners, but they are a nice addition to any tank. i would look into oto's as stated b4 to clean algea
 
my mystery snails are good at keeping algae under control, but not totally getting rid of it. mainly on plastic plants. they don't seem to do to well on the glass, though.
 
my mystery snails arent really good at keeping away algae.. that ive noticed anyway. but my ottos are. i hear they love the brown algae and make a good job of it, but that the green algaes are tough for them
