Do you keep your bubbles on all the time?

Couldn't decide if this is the right location for this post, but here I go. Do you run your air pump all the time, or just at certain times or what? I've been leaving it on all the time, but I was just curious. I'm running a really small 5 gal. air pump in my 10 gal. tank. It seems to make a ton of bubbles, even with just a small inch long blue fizzy thing. I can't imagine having a pump that's actually for a 10 gal. tank!

Thanks in advance!

I personally don't use any pumps since my HOB filters provide plenty of agitation. I have in the past though and when I did, I left them on around the clock.

The gallon rating on an air pump is almost meaningless. I guess for someone with no idea about what they need its slightly better than nothing. The real question you should ask before buying an air pump is how deep is the water and how many things do I want to put air on. The water depth determines how much pressure the pump will need to develop to get any bubbles at all. The how many things do I want to run determines the volume you will need. Many air pumps have ratings like 20 inches deep it would run 3 air stones, etc. This type of rating and your knowledge of your tank will help you much more in getting the right pump for your needs.
It doesn't hurt to run the air pump all the time but as Hooked Newbie said, you really only need a good way to circulate your water to get plenty of air into it.

I have a 28" bubble wall in my 38 gallon tank, powered by an air pump that is meant for a 5 gallon. So like ghjhreed said, the gallon readings are meaningless. And I keep mine on all the time.

As my airpumps are connected to sponges to serve as sponge filters for small tanks, they are switched on all the time. No turn offs in my case. I used to simply turn it off when I inject CO2 in my planted tank during the day so the CO2 won't be diffused.

I leave mine on all the time...most of them are sponge filters.

I leave mine on all the time.

I also leave mine on all the time
