I was wondering if you think the prices are worth an 8 hour round trip, not counting time it takes to shop??
I live on the Florida line in Alabama and the nearest Aldi is in South Atlanta, Ga.

Can goods here, on a super sale, will run about 44 cents a can. (green beans, corn, and peas) But normal sale is 66 cents.

What do you think of thier meats and fresh produce?

This would be a stock-up shoping trip, if I go

They don't give out phone numbers, I would call. The number listed for Lovejoy, Ga was 770-000-1111.

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Bonnie

We have one about 10 min away, I try and do about 70-80% of our shopping there. BAsed on trips over the past few months, I'd say the things I buy there average about to be about 50% less than buying them elsewhere (usually super-walmart or stop-and-shop). They're selections are limited (thats part of what drives lower cost) so I usually do all the staple shopping there. I really like their business model and recommend them to everyone I can, but I'm not sure an 8 hour trip would end up saving you that much when you take into account the time and cost of driving there.

I don't think it's worth the 8 hour drive at all. We drive an hour once in awhile to stock up but it always includes a visit with my grandma. I'd prefer to watch for adds and sales from local stores then drive all that way for groceries.

Aldi has great prices and most of their food is very good quality (similar prices to Save - a - lot, if you've ever been there, but MUCH better quality in general). They also have some name brands and premium foods usually at better prices than other grocery stores. Their fresh meats and produce are about the same quality as any other run of the mill grocery store, but they do not have a huge selection. They are a lot cheaper on milk though and most staples, though I've noticed a few things, such as pasta are actually more expensive than the regular grocery store, at least in my area.

But an 8 hr round trip? That would only be worth it if the stores in your own area are very overpriced and you get really good gas mileage on your vehicle.

Also, Aldi's in different regions vary in price, so you would have to call the one you're planning on going to and ask for some price comparisons to decide if it's worth it to you. I'm not sure why they wouldn't have a phone number; the one here does. You would probably be better off trying to find a closer discount grocery store for dried goods such as cereal, etc., and canned goods. As far as fresh meats and produce I can't really see them being cheap enough to warrant driving such a distance. Their prices on meat are comparable to most groceries.

Have to say I don't think it would be worth a 8 hour trip, the cost of gas alone would not save you anything in the end.

Aldis is probably the best place in the country to buy food. You get the best bang for your buck there. Their can foods are great bargains. Their pork chops are excellent. Their 2 pack t-bone steaks are very good, but not that cheap. Their produce is very fresh and inexpensive. For example, bananas are .39 cents a pound at my Aldis. I shop there all the time. My store had milk for $2 a gallon for more than 2 years, when everybody else had it for $4 bucks. Now it costs $3 a gallon.

Most of their brand name food items are great at very low prices. Things I don't like are their yogurt, ice cream bars(similar to good humor bars) or their cocktail sauce for shrimp(too hot).

It's not worth driving that far to buy your food there. Eventually, there will probably be an Aldis coming to your town.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was thinking I would spend about 4 or 5 hundred to stock up. Mainly canned and boxed goods. I keep hearing that we should stock up because times are going to get ruff.

i think, Aldis for canned good s in my area, is the lowest you can find them. Its an hour to the closest for me. so i usually stock up on canned good there. as for everything else, it runs the same price as anywhere else. ( excluding milk)

If you are seriously going to spend that large of an amount, it may be worth your trip, however, i would check prices at a local wholesale club. esp if your spending that much. you may save more buying in bulk, and not wasting the gas money!
