I have a question about albino sharks and really any fish. let me tell you the sad story...
I feel terrible last night I was cleaning my tank and I swear I did not see anyfish so I put the syphon down and started to clean this one particular spot. well as you probably guessed the smallest albino, (the baby) accidentally got caught inside of the syphon, I only had him inside for seconds...
...but i'm afraid I really hurt him I know it sounds dumb but it made me cry...
I really needed to ask someone about this because I really do not know what to do for him, or how to care for a fish in these kind of situations as well as i'd like to. and well I watched him for the next 30 min, he just layed at the bottom of my tank in between the glass and the 10" long airstone that runs along the back. I thought he was dead at 1st, but I noticed that he was breathing and it looked like he was eating...
...well then the other albino started to chase him and he quickly dove into a cave I made for him, after that I promptly put my cover on the aquarium, (to block out the light) I read that certain fish cannot see in the dark so I figured this would help alleviate some of the stress I created for the fish. anyway, I am planning on leaving them in the dark for at least a full day possibly longer. I feel so bad about this and I think he will be ok but I wanted to ask if this has ever happened to anyone else, is there anything I can do for the little guy? is leaving them in the dark just plain dumb?

:wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:
PS just in case anyone was wondering, I did not cut him as far as I could tell, his fins all seemed to be fine, he just seemed out of it?

I feel so bad about this

i think he'll be okay... you probably just stressed him out pretty bad...

if he's breathing and eating, he'll probably be okay. add some stress coat and keep the lights off for the night. let him just relax and not be stressed. keep an eye on him...

i've seen many o' fish get sucked up (i work at a fish store, don't ask...) and survive...

good luck.

Probably just stressed out.

stressed I would think...good idea covering the tank to calm him down and lessen exposure to boisterous tank mates.

no visible injury ? bet he's good as gold in a day :)

he'll be fine... he's probably just freaked out. IMO you don't really need to leave the tank lights out, though.

well, he has been breathing and eating, he seems a lot better now than he did. (whew)

but here is the odd thing i noticed.
he has been making a cave at the back of tank between 10" airstrip and the back glass?! (do they make little nests too?)

I thought he was dead until I noticed that he was just sitting lower in the back than usual, evey time I see him he has burrowed a little more of the gravel away fom the airstrip and then he snuggles up to it?! :grinyes:

could this really be the case, he is sheltering himself or something because of the stressful meeting with my gravel vac?

(I noticed that one of my danio's likes to hang out down there with him too)

*oh yeah when the tragic event happened he only was in the lower part of vac, but I did shake him a 'lil:headshake2:

(just waiting for payday and the emperor 400 will be mine)
