the 2 LFS's by me, Ocean Gallery II and Pet Shanty, are both very good and pretty much every employee knows quite a bit about fish and dont try to sell oscars to people with 20 gallon tanks like most LFS's do.
i have 2 around me, the petco used to be good, but has gone downhill severly. and petsmart, (which i have to admit i have a part time job at, 15% off is a great reason) most of the people there have no idea what they are talking about. i had one lady come in one day and talk to me, saying she was in the night before and bought a 5.5G tank, then bought a $12 goldfish and a betta for that tank. needless to say she came to me with a dead goldfish.
The one acctual LFS near me is run by one old woman who has been in the hobby longer than most of us have been alive. She is very knowledgeable and even refuses to sell fish to people who dont have the proper set up for them. Unfourtunately her shop is pretty small.
Some employeess at the various LPS's and LFS's can be considered knowledgable compaed to most employees, but I have yet to meet one who could really be considered an "expert" in fishkeeping. On the other hand, some of them really don't know what there doing at all. However, none of the poll options fit my situation, so I can't vote.
my LFS, who any of you who have read my sig should know the name of, has lots of knowlegable staff, but thet could really use more. they said they might be able to hire me in the future.
I go to an Aquarium Adventure as well, in Dublin Ohio, and the staff has overall been knowledgeble--but I am still a newbie so we'll see how their advice turns out. Initially I went to a Jack's Pets and their staff had no idea what they were talking about. Now I'm committed to driving the distance (10-15miles) to aquarium adventure, since they have a better supply of fish, plants, product, and knowledge.
