Does anyone else turn their mistakes from a bummer into a learning experience?

I side swiped a parked car today...
What did I learn? Well, beyond paying closer attention to the road I learned that people think your a bonafide saint then you go door to door looking for the owner of the damaged car. The responses were so positive that for a minute I forgot I jacked up someone's Suburban and thought I did something good for all of humanity.

I know this isn't related to fish keeping but I hit a freaking car today and I'm a bit chapped about it.

when i was an even younger youngin ...i accidentally "baked" about 12 neons that were in a little tiny 5 hex. :(

didnt know i was supposed to turn the lights off :(

A good carpenter makes few mistakes, and a GREAT carpenter fixes them and learns from them. Its the same idea, fishkeeping is a learning process. Heck, the first year i had a tank, i was fishwatching two angels in a 20 gal. for a friend. Each month i completely emptied and cleaned the tank. Its amazing they didnt die. Ive had my fair share of fish deaths. But each time, instead of getting sad or giving up, you take it in as a way of learning.

I try but I sometimes forget them after a few years and might repeat once in while!

Wow, so many responses!

I think my poor betta got my thinking about this sort of thing - he has fin rot, I don't know what to do, been doing wcs daily, no medication yet, the problem's just been getting progressively worse, et cetera et cetera. Anyway.

Casemarten, I think I agree with your point of view - but it's still such a bummer to lose one before its time, for me - I feel like there's nearly no excuse, having the resources we do these days.

TA, I have thought something along those lines- I mean, surely, with the technologies and intelligences we have, the companies that manufacture and sell these products could certainly be more explicit in ingredients, usage, and efficacy! It's almost baffling to me when I walk into a fish or pet store and see so many "fool's gold" products. It's almost like they're banking on the lack of education or interest of the people they're supplying to, rather than trying to educate them..
