It tends to be very unusual for a snail to turn on a very healthy fish for food. As absurd as it sounded which I previously also felt before it became a horrible reality after I discovered my dojo and kuhli loaches missing, I'd like to know if anyone has fed their snails with meat and observed any attempted cannibalistic tendencies (not counting the opportunity to eat the dead snails which they pretty much do as they are scavengers).

Feeding meat will be referred to as feeding fresh white or red meat to the snails such as chicken, beef, pork, salmon, tuna, etc. Protein based fish foods will not count as feeding them meat as the taste is not always the same. If it were not the insufficient protein load, it could only be their behavior triggered by the presence of the meat.

Those with assassin snails (they're not even apples) will not count. They're predatory enough towards other snails without meat being shoved under their noses.

Thanks!

NO - But I do feed my assassins apple snails

nope, my nerites, diffusa, and spixis (oh what the heck, rams, pouches, and MTS, too) all order from the vegetarian menu at Casa de Pik. Asassins are another matter, just like you said :)

I don't see why anyone would feed meats. I've heard other horror stories with khuli loaches and frogs. Even if it weren't for that, I would have never thought about feeding meat anyways. For the most part, I break my rule and feed mostly processed pellets to the snails here. They get greens, but honestly, it's mostly a commercial bottom feeder pellet.

alot of the pellets I feed have meat in the diet. In my community tanks I routinely feed frozen worms, which the snails also enjoy.

Hrmm. When you put it that way... Most of my carnivores go without snails. The wolf fish does have a bridgesii, but he's fed mainly pellets, with mealworms and live feeders, which never make it to where the snail has access (the pellets he does, but the live meaty foods he doesn't). The main tank that I keep snails in (bridgesii, cana and haustrum) has tropheus duboisi, so there are absolutely no meaty foods for that tank, veggies and vegetable flakes/pellets only, because of the chances of bloat in the tropheus. The spixis were the only ones that would have really had access to a "meaty" food, they were with the endlers, which were fed decapsulated brine shrimp eggs and spirulina, and the snails did clean up the decapped BS eggs. I never had any problems with them. In fact, I just recently had a major temp spike in that tank (it was at 90) and lost 4 large females, which were consumed in a mass of snails, none of which were the spixis...

Mine have the chance to get tubifex and blood worms as they are in a community setting, so I voted yes. That being said, I do not intentionally give my snails meat. I have not seen any aggression from my large male that I have had for quite some time. He just keeps on searching for whatever hits the tank that the fish miss, plus the veggies I put in for everyone.
