Does anyone have MOSQUITO FISH?

http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=3215

Here is a link about them. I have some that I caught in a local creek in KY. They have not been a problem at all. They are fun to watch and in decent numbers, say 12 in my 29 gal, they are very active and seem to have much fun in my tank. All the fish seem to get along just fine. Look at my Blog for the tank spec and fish.
Now I have 5 still in the same tank and they seem to hide much of the time. Maybe because they are low in number and need more to feel at home. I can't wait to have more babies.
I had 12 of them there but when I did a good cleaning and water change one day, somehow my inlet screen to my canister filter got knocked off. I finished all the work, refilled the tank and replaced the screen. Sat back and was enjoying my labors, looking around my tank and noticed that it seemed that my tank had fewer fish in it than when I started. Hmmmmm
So I searched and searched. Scratched my head. I couldn't figure out what had happened. I have a African Knife Fish in there and I knew he could eat them but has not even tried. But no way could he eat all 12 in one day. It was driving me crazy. A couple hours went by and I thought "What if.....",
So I tore down my filter and low and behold, all 12 of them went up the inlet hose to my filter. None of the other fish did however. Sad I know but the good news is I saved 5. 2 females and 3 males. Needless to say, the females are pregnant. I wonder what could have made them want to go up the pipe?

Anyway, they are headed out in the pond soon.

If you want to control misquitos and not have your fish attacked all the time by the gambusias - I would suggest getting Rosy Barbs. They eat mosquitos as well, don't bother other fish and made it thru the winter in my pond when water temps hit 45F.

for me i just call mosquito abaitment center and they deliver and drop them off for free here in cali.

where i live you can get rid of them. im trying to breed spotted gambusia.but overall ther not comunity fish and can only be kept with tough fish. mine live in my fl biotope

i also gots these gambusia rhyzophorea

Will Rosy Barbs cohabit with wild guppies? I have an outdoor tank with wild guppies. I didn't know rosy barbs will survive in winter. Its a tropical winter at that so it won't be too cold. I'd love to be able to put something else in addition to wild guppies.

From what I understand, Most fish love mosquito larvae, so I imagine the guppies would too.
