I saw some filter media in my LFS and I was wonder if I could just fashion my own filters outta this stuff for my Cascade and Penguin. I feel like I am always rinsing them out because they become clogged. The carbon in them was used up months ago. The only reason I keep them in there is because they are already established. What I am thinking is just cutting out some of the filter floss and stuffing it in the open chambers of my filter. Maybe I could even add some carbon in a media bag. Does anyone else do this?? Does it work?? Is it better than the filters that are actually made for my types??

I buy the BioBags for my power filter, but I mix my own carbon and zeolite.

You might find a plastic media contaner to fit the Penquin ar the Lfs to make your own.Carbon easy to put in a nylon stocking then flatting it out.

couldn't you mabye have 2-3 smaller ones and then you could change one out completely and that way the other 2 would still keep the tanks bacteria level covered?
