Hey,

Ive been doing some research on line the last few days, and many sights say that regular use of a product called "algone" in your aquarium filter really helps keeps all kinds of algae to a minimum by natrually controling nitrate levels, and excess nutrients in general, and does not effect plants, fish, etc.......

Does anyone here use this product? If so, what have your reslts with it been like?

Thanks!

algone

i have this product. the LFS guy told me about it to lower my ph a little, and to maybe help with the nitrate problem i was haivng.he also told me that he uses a bag in every tank he can at the shop. it did help the nitrate a little, but mainly the water changes did, and it also did make my water look very crisp and clean. as of right now i have never had a huge algea outbreak, so i couldnt tell you if or how quick it cleans that up. the only little bad thing i noticed was some kind of a smell. it wasnt a horrible rotting smell, but kind of like a pond smell, or dirt, if that doesnt sound crazy to you. im really weird about smells, so that could just be me. i hoped this helped you a little bit.

Thanks Amber, but any idea how much it lowered your ph, because i dont want to do that as my PH currently sits at 7.2 which is perfect imo for my fish, plus i hear that change isnt good for fish.......

I wouldn't use it. Use water changes to lower nitrate problems; I personally would like to add as little chemicals to my aquarium as possible. .2-3 change in pH could be a problem, as fish really need a stable pH.

I personally would up the water changes if you have nitrate problems...
