i have some dechlorinator that's about 4 years old and was wondering if i could still use it?

Dechlorinator is basically sodium thiosulfate. It loses most of its effectiveness in 3 years. So, you shoud get new one ASAP.

Interesting. So dechlorinators do expire...eh? I didn't know. Well, thanks for the welcoming information. We may need to refrigerate our water conditioners in order to preserve it for 5 years or something lol that is, if you have a gallon worth. I just got a jug 5-6 months ago..

If you e-mail or call Seachem, who makes Prime, they will tell you it has an indefinite shelf life.

Sodium thiosuphate can last a really long time. We had some in a box in the basement for many years. I asked my chemist husband & he said it gets a very bad smell when it breaks down, ours was fine.

Of course that sniff test doesn't work with Prime, it always smells, LOL. But it last a long time

i already have declorinator, i just found this a couple weeks ago and its almost full so i wanted to use it if possible. it doesn't smell bad, so maybe it is fine?

You can say that again! I just switched over to that from Jungle A.C.E., and the smell's pretty bad.

My understanding is Prime doesn't use sodium thiosulphate. That's why it's more expensive & smells different. But it's worth the price.
