does saltwater tank smell?

i was chatting with a few coworkers last week, all have freshwater tanks. We discussed about swtiching to a saltwater setup but one of them said he would never ever do saltwater because just could not stand the smell!

Is this true? do saltwater tanks smell? i suppose the smell of salt? hmm....

They do not smell any different then a freshwater. You cannot smell the salt. Maybe your friend need to take a bath?!

No smell from mine at all. If any tank smells bad, something is wrong.

I actually think it smells less than my freshwater did.

Mine salty doesn't smell at all, unless I am cleaning the skimmer cup. then it will clear the house its so nasty. But in general I would say that they had a problem with the tank.

My marine tanks do not smell. If a tank smells, it has been neglected.

If you stick your nose right over the water and sniff they do smell a little different than a f.w. set up but, it's not as stong and not unpleasant. Now, cleaning out your skimmer or removing a dead sponge ,"a stink that defies description."
