has anyone ever had one of these fish?i've read the info on here...but i was looking for some more personal experiences. thanks

i purchased one of these fish labled "dragon eel" at petsmart awhile back but they are incorrectly named. their real name is polypterus senegalus. or the senegal bichir. when i bought mine it was only about three inches long, it is now about 9in long and still growing. it is one of the smaller fish in its family, attaining a length of around 16in the biggest fish in this fanily is the congo bichir nwhich grows to 3ft!. the best thing to feed them when they are small is tiny pieces of krill. as they grow u can start feeding them live foods:ghost shrimp, minnows, mealworms, and crikets. if u are only going to feed live foods, it is important to mix up its diet. dont feed just one thing. another food source that has all of the vitamins that the fish needs is the hikari sinking carnivore pellets. since the fish gets fairly large it will need to be housed in an aquariom no smaller than 30gallons. preferably a 55.
hope this helps :D oh yeah this only applies if you are refering to the dragon eel, the violet goby is a completely different fish
